What does it do?
Read and Write Gold is a computer software program. It is a learning system for students striving to improve their literacy and language proficiency. Read and Write Gold will read aloud text on the screen. It will read documents and web-based information using natural-sounding synthetic voice options. The voices may be adjusted to the user's preferences. As text is read aloud, it is highlighted to provide a multi-sensory approach. The user may select text to be read word by word, sentence by sentence or paragraph by paragraph.
It includes three dictionary options: advanced, basic and web. Other word level tools include phonetic spell checker, word prediction, homophone help, pronunciation tutor to break words into syllables and word wizard. Study skill supports include fact finder which is used to perform web searches, fact mapper and fact folder.
In addition to the above mentioned writing tools, Read and Write Gold allows for speech input. After competing the included training program the user may dictate text into the computer. The speech make allows the user to convert any text into a sound file.
Read and Write Gold can be used with a scanner, so that published text may be made available on the computer. The software can then perform its read aloud and other functions on this text.
Read and Write Gold also includes a calculator and Daisy book reader. Several versions of Read and Write Gold are available. The mobile version can be inserted into any compatible computer and site licenses are available for more than one user.
