What does it do?

Kurzweil 3000 is a computer software program . It is a learning system for students striving to improve their literacy and language proficiency. Kurzweil will read aloud text on the screen. It will read documents and web-based information using natural-sounding synthetic voice options. The voices may be adjusted to the user's preferences. As text is read aloud, it is highlighted to provide a multi-sensory approach. This dual highlighting system highlights the paragraph or sentence in one color and the word being read in another color.

It includes a recursive dictionary with definitions, synonyms, syllabification and spell mode available with on click access. Study skill supports include highlighting, text circle tools, annotations, Bookmarks and Voice Notes. Information may be extracted to create outlines, study guides, or word lists.

Kurzweil 3000 includes several writing tools. The software can be set to speak each letter or word as it is typed , so students can catch spelling mistakes. It will also underline misspelled words as they are typed. The audible spell checker and customizable word prediction tools help students check their work as they write.

Kurzweil 3000 can be used with a scanner, so that published text may be made available on the computer. The software can then perform its read aloud and highlighting functions on this text. Online books and encyclopedias are also accessible through Kurzweil 3000. The software can read text in English, French, German, Spanish or Italian and provides dictionary definitions in each of these languages.

Kurzweil 3000 provides a wide array of tools for teachers so that they can personalize instruction to their students individual learning needs. Teachers can insert a variety of notes into the text. Accommodations may be incorporated into online tests. Flexible networking options are also available.
