The Florida Longitudinal Study

Dr. Richard K. Wagner

The Florida longitudinal study is a four-year study that will examine the development of reading and writing, including both basic skills as well as comprehension and composition. This study will provide a broader look at the development of literacy skills, expanding on previously gained knowledge about phonemic awareness and decoding to include reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling and written expression. We will assess children from the beginning of first-grade through the beginning of fourth-grade, testing alternative models of developmental relations among key constructs of literacy, using multiple indicators of each key construct.
